GENERAL

NAME: Karen Zabinsky
NICKNAMES: Inksy, Ren
AGE/DOB: 15 16 | March 12
BLOOD STATUS: Half-blood
GENDER/PRONOUNS: she/her
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
HOMETOWN: Eugene, Oregon

CONCEPT: An awkward dorky tomboy trying to find her sense of self.

PHYSICAL

APPEARANCE: Karen has in the past dressed in clothing that was a little oversized, and definitely a in the tomboyish vain. Karen has recently been dipping into her feminine side, getting different clothing and trying out make-up in her journey of finding herself. She is trying to figure out her style so it is a bit of everything. Though she definitely picks darker clothing when she is not in uniform. Karen wears her uniform in a manner that is comfortable to her, she doesn't like things too tight or buttoned too high so the uniform does make things interesting. She definitely wears it in a more relaxed manner.

HEIGHT: 5'4

PB: Liana Liberato

PERSONALITY

LIKES: Drawing, comics, LARP, pizza, video games, sleeping, naps, popcorns with something sweet mixed in, small social settings, her brother, no-maj clothing, singing off key (cause yeah she can't carry a tune), dancing (more like gooving to music in her own way), cozy sweaters and blankets

DISLIKES: Bullies, when things are too quiet, mean girls/boys, heights, uniforms, being too hot, peanut butter, confrontation, awkward conversations, stress, being woken up before she actually needs to be

PERSONALITY:

Karen did a lot of growing up in an orphanage and as much as she doesn't like to admit it, it played a big part of making her who she is. Not having her own place made her like to control the things she could, which would be the small things like her own belongings. As such, she has never been big on people touching her things without asking and is a bit possessive about them. Karen also tends to shy away in large group settings because an orphanage is ultimately a large group of kids and she found it easier to follow in the shadow of Oscar and his ability to make people laugh and in hopes they like them both. She felt like they just came as a package deal. Karen is often a wallflower in big groups, but she finds that comfortable. She would feel left out if she wasn't invited to the big group event though. She likes to people watch but when people approach her she is definitely awkward, very likely to put her foot in her mouth by saying something silly that she will kick herself for later. Yeah, Karen is definitely shy which might surprise some because she is an Azurcrest. She does better in smaller groups, she is definitely more talkative there, at least the topic doesn't get too deep she isn't keen on opening up about feelings. So it will not be uncommon for her to branch off with small groups in big social gatherings.

When Karen is upset, frustrated, stressed, even angry, she shuts down. Karen doesn't like talking about her problems, she hates opening up to anyone that isn't Oscar, which she should really work on. She has issues connecting, not because of trust, but because of fear that something might happen and they may leave maybe not even of their own choice. Karen also hates showing these types of emotions because she fears it will show her as weak. Karen usually bottles up her feelings until she cracks and it usually is just a sobbing mess that Oscar has to pick up the pieces. Karen started drawing in the orphanage to express her feelings because she couldn't in her own words, and she did this by comic books imitating the stuff she loved to read.

Karen has always been more comfortable being known as Oscar's little sister and was a little dependent on that. The two years when she and her brother were not at school together were hard. But they did teach her something that she would be fine on her own. She gathered some independence and it was really the start of her journey of finding out who she really was. Though her first year at Gooseberry started to get it moving a little quicker besides her feeling more confident on her own without Oscar. She started exploring her own interest and what she really liked. She joined a few clubs, though she definitely didn't stick with all of them. It was definitely eye-opening when her dormmates asked her to tell them about herself and she wasn't sure, her only reply was I'm Oscar's sister and I like to draw. So Karen is doing some soul searching so to speak.

Confrontation is not something Karen is any good at. When arguments happen, whether she is involved or not, she feels awkward and wants to just back away. When dormmates argue she just wants to leave the room and generally will try to shrink as small as possible to not be noticed if she can't actually leave. When it comes to confrontation she is actually involved in she shuts down, goes quiet, and will try to leave. When forced to talk she will, and usually it will be very incoherent and probably unfortunately blunt. She does not like being pushed and when she is it is not pretty.

Yes, Karen is a bit intense but when she is her relaxed and not overthinking things she is actually pretty easygoing. She embraces her nerdy self, her interest in comics and LARP. She joined the more nerdy clubs and found out she didn't like them just because Oscar did. Karen does prefer when things are light and fun and not serious. Light and fluffy are how she likes things. Just because she isn't the most outgoing and loud doesn't mean she doesn't enjoy fun and just going with the flow. Karen likes it when things are easy and stressless.

SKILLS

LANGUAGES SPOKEN: English.

PATRONUS: At this time Karen cannot produce a Patronus, but if she could it would definitely be a Ragdoll Cat.

SKILLS: Karen is a good drawer, this did not happen overnight but took years of her drawing out her feelings. Her medium of choices is usually black and white comic books with some colour and she loves using felt tip pens. Karen also has a good memory for random trivia facts, not exactly useful. This does not always translate to being good in class unfortunately.

HISTORY:

Karen Zabinsky was born to two loving parents who already had a son, Oscar. Karen would grow up being very close to her brother, she was born having a built-in best friend. Karen would always see her brother as one of her best friends. Her childhood was pretty normal to start with for a wizarding family. Karen would attend Stedelen with her brother as it was nearby. She usually followed her brother around. Honestly, the life was normal and nothing would have been of interest in her childhood if her parents had not tragically passed away when she was young. Her mother and father passed away in a car accident on a rainy evening. This turned Karen's world upside down because there was no family to take them in. It was off to an orphanage for wizarding kids for both Karen and Oscar.

The orphanage where she fell into depression and just shut herself off from everyone but Oscar. She initially was not very responsive to the staff and rarely spoke with the other children. She eventually did come out of it, making some friends and playing with other kids she just needed time. Though she found comfort in being her brother's shadow. He was the one that could start the relationship building, and that was how she liked it. Though because of their connection, it meant that they could not be separated, and due to Karen being sort of shut off from interacting with new people they were not exactly popular for being selected. Karen was okay with that, she was kind of scared by the idea of getting new parents and them vanishing from her life as well.

The next biggest change in her life was when Oscar left. It was hard to take but she understood why he was going. After he was away at Gooseberry it meant she was easier to place in a foster home. She was placed in a small foster home with two great wizarding parents who were pretty well off. It honestly wasn't bad and she actually got her own room so that was nice. It was different for sure and she missed her brother a lot but they did write every day so it made it easier. Karen focused on making sure she could get into Gooseberry. So she spent a lot of time doing community service activities through the orphanage. Karen would apply for a scholarship like her brother and thankfully receive it for her work with community park clean-ups and community centre hours. It didn't hurt she was also good in school. She really worked hard to get into Gooseberry.

Her first year at Gooseberry was a lot to take in. She was not unfamiliar with sharing space but she had kind of growing accustomed to her own room. But she loved having Oscar around again. Lots of things happened over the course of the year, it was a lot to take in for a freshman. Though it didn't stop her from wanting to return for her sophmore year. She made new friends once she finally allowed herself to open up a bit. She tried a number of different clubs, just to see what she liked. She was really learning to explore who she was and not just rely on Oscar. Those two years separated really did do them some good, because if they hadn't separated she probably wouldn't be trying these new things out.

SCHOOL

YEAR: Sophomore
HOUSE: Azurcrest
SORTING: Karen was nervous before she walked into that cave. Karen listened to emblems discuss how she fit best into their houses and why she was the best fit. She wanted Azurcrest because of her brother. Though the Azurcrest emblem had a good arguement. She would flourish in an environment that was easy-going and jovial and encourage those traits in her. Ultimately, she was sorted into Azurcrest.
WAND: Beech wood, Jackalope Antler, 8 inches, sturdy
FAMILIAR: None.

CLASSES: Charms, Hermeticism, History of Magic, Potions, Transfiguration, Artificing, Astronomy
ADVANCED STUDY: None.
SENIOR PROJECT: Karen is still trying to figure this out. Though she is learning towards something to do with Astronomy and star maps and probably some sort of spell to generate an accurate map to do studies. She hasn't really figured it out but it will be around Astronomy and that is as far as she has got.
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: Karen is a hardworking student. She cares about her studies. While things may not come as easy to her as they may do other students in this environment she puts the time in to do a good job. After all, she knew coming in everyone would be a good student so she didn't expect to be top of the class. She puts the time and effort in and produces quality work consistently. She usually hovers in the high B range, but the occasional C if she is overwhelmed and stressed out. Her favourite class is Astronomy as it seems the easiest to keep her focus and the one she enjoys doing homework and studying for. Potions is her least favourite as it is the one she struggles the most in.

EXTRACURRICULARS: LARP and Gaming
